Sea State Measurements from Ts-x Sar Data

چکیده
An empirical algorithm XWAVE to derive significant wave height from high resolution TerraSAR-X (TS-X) and Tandem-X (TD-X) has been developed. The algorithm is created especially for spaceborne X-band SAR data without needing a priori information. TS-X scenes were acquired in the over buoys located at the coast of United States of America and Canada and including Hawaii islands. Integral wave parameters are estimated from TS-X and TD-X data by integration two-dimensional image spectra and using geophysical function, for which the parameters are calibrated. TS-X Stripmap images and in-situ buoy measurements data is used to tune geophysical model parameters. The tuning is carried out by comparisons of integral wave parameters as wave height, peak period and direction (1) and by the shape of 1-D in-situ measured spectra and 1-D integrated image spectra (2). The results show that the model can yield sea state measurements up to 5m significant wave height by TS-X SAR with an scatter index of 0.21 . The model can be used for the near real-time services to deliver sea state measurements.

The general methodology to derive the sea surface wind field from SAR is to apply an empirical Geophysical Model Function (GMF) to the calibrated SAR image using wind direction from external sources or wind streaks visible in SAR
Abstract— A Geophysical Model Function (GMF), denoted XMOD2, is developed to retrieve sea surface wind field from Xband TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X (TS-X/TD-X) data. In contrast to the previously developed XMOD1, XMOD2 consists of a nonlinear GMF, and thus, it depicts the difference between upwind and downwind of the sea surface backscatter in X-band SAR imagery. By exploiting 371 collocations with i...

methods to derive wind speed and the sea state from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data are presented and applied for use in high resolution numerical modeling for coastal application. The new radar satellite TerraSAR-X (TS-X) images the sea surface with a high resolution up to 1m. So not only the wind field and integrated sea state parameters but also individual ocean waves with wave...

Remote sensing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data from TerraSAR-X and Tandem-X (TS-X and TD-X) satellites have been used for validation and verification of newly developed coastal forecast models in the German Bight of the North Sea. The empirical XWAVE algorithm for estimation of significant wave height has been adopted for coastal application and implemented for NRT services. All available T...

In the present study, we present the newly developed Geophysical Model Function (GMF), denoted XMOD2, to retrieve the sea surface wind field from X-band TerraSAR-X/Tandem-X (TS-X/TD-X) data. In contrary to the previous XMOD1, XMOD2 is based on a nonlinear GMF, and moreover it also depicts the difference between upwind and downwind of the sea surface backscatter. By exploiting 371 collocations, ...
متن کاملDerivation of Sea Surface Wind Directions from TerraSAR-X Data Using the Local Gradient Method
Derivation of sea surface wind direction is a key step of sea surface wind retrieval from spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. This technical note describes an implementation of the Local Gradient (LG) method to derive sea surface wind directions at a scale of a few kilometers from X-band spaceborne SAR TerraSAR-X (TS-X) data in wide swath mode. The 180 ̋ ambiguity in the derived sea ...
